Objectives and Approach of the Research Group

The objective of the Interdisciplinary Research Group (IAG) Sustainable construction – for saving resources and climate protection is to find out why, despite better knowledge, sustainable and climate-friendly construction is rarely implemented. The objective is therefore to analyze the obstacles that stand in the way of sustainable development. After all, it is not only the implementation of new technologies and innovations that presents obstacles to sustainable construction. Rather, economic aspects, state regulations, social aspects and issues of communication with the public and politicians also prevent the realization of sustainable and climate-friendly construction.

In a first step, the IAG conducts systematic surveys among certain groups of people involved in construction, including building material manufacturers, architecture and engineering firms, construction companies, clients and investors. In addition, the IAG is conducting a discourse analysis on the topic of "sustainable construction", interviewing journalists and analyzing communication issues. In a second step, the IAG develops countermeasures and strategies and formulates the necessary recommendations for science, civil society and politics.
